New Year

Well here is the start to another year: 2004. Almost weird to think that isn't it? As the years tick on by we are reminded of what we have done, where we have been and everything that we have left to do. Its almost like a race against time... the thing is that time always wins.

Alot of people say that the new year is a time to reinvent yourself or atleast its the one time that you can get to start all over again. But the truth is that we can't start all over again. The past is always with us, for it shapes who we become. I hate it when tourists come to Mexico and say "what happens in Mexico stays in Mexico". Its not true. "What happens in Mexico" stays with you till the day you die. Figuratively and literally. The things that you do will continue to have benefits or consequences. So what can we do during the new year? We can reflect on our life for a bit and realize all of our successes and failures and realize that those are the normal course of a human life. You can only measure success when you have failed, and you can only appreciate the good times when you have been through the bad. We can take the new year and look at it as a new chapter in a book that is yet to be finished. Some are longer than others, but they all have a beggining and an end. We fail everytime we try to predict the future, for nothing is certain and when you realize how many things are out of our control, the only thing we can hope for is to take life one step, one decision, one day at a time and hope that at the end of the day, year and journey, we are able to look back on all of it and stand up for it. The good along with the bad, put it all in our book of memories and with a wicked smile say "What a ride!".

Happy New Year to us all.
